Dear Soi Residents and Soi Builders,

Chadchart Sittipunt’s win was no surprise. The 52.8% turnout was — it’s the lowest since at least 2000, despite a 42% jump in election spending and a city goal of 70%.

The People’s Party took 22 council seats, 33% more than last cycle. Bangkok Possible, Democrats, Pheu Thai and Better Bangkok followed with 11, eight, four and two, respectively. Independents took the rest.

What’s next: The Election Commission has 30 days to certify the results — 60 days if someone files a complaint.

Yes, but… Under the BMA Act, the governor’s and the council’s terms retroactively start June 28, and the interior minister must call the first council meeting within 15 days of the election.

Here’s what to expect in Chadchart’s second term and the new council, plus other news that didn’t make the Sunday issues in June.
