Dear Soi Residents and Soi Builders,
I hope you’re staying dry. Floods have affected more than 329,000 households and 700,000 people, the city said.
Timeline: City officials said Monday water levels in major canals should fall by today. Severely hit areas such as Khlong Chan need about two weeks to return to normal.
🔦 Amid questions about accountability, residents are organizing relief:
Vendors near Pantip Plaza in Bang Kapi turned their flooded stalls into a “floating market.”
Khlong Chan residents opened central kitchens to distribute food, saying state support fell short.
Student developers launched “Rangjai,” a platform centralizing real-time flood aid and rescue information.
👀 What to watch: The Cabinet approved 2 billion baht for flood relief nationwide. Affected households may qualify for payouts of up to 9,000 baht. Bangkok officials plan “big cleaning” efforts as the conditions improve.
Officials also urged residents to watch for short circuits. Daily electrical fires rose from a baseline of 10 to at least 27 over the weekend, peaking at 53, they said.
Otherwise, here are news items that didn’t make September’s Sunday editions, plus my October watchlist.
